Dear Syracuse Elementary Families,

I am very grateful to introduce myself as the new principal of Syracuse Elementary this school year and join this excellent community.  I can assure you that I share the school community’s dedication and tradition of caring for students every day to provide a meaningful learning environment.

This year marks my 17th year in education.  I taught in the classroom for nine years, and have spent the remainder of my career as an administrator with experience at all three levels of public education: elementary, junior high, and high school.  My professional experience has shown me that the work we do in our schools matters.  Our schools have a meaningful impact on the lives of our students, and I am excited to participate in this work with you.

While I am an educator, I am also a husband and father of two.  My wife, Jamie, is also an educator and she teaches 5th grade.  I count myself fortunate to have been able to send my own children to Davis School District schools.  As my son and daughter are now in high school and junior high school, I know the value of a quality elementary education experience.  I understand the important role that our school plays in our community, and in your daily lives.  I take that responsibility seriously.

I believe firmly that all students can learn, and I know that cooperation between home and school is vital to the success of your child.  I recognize there are a variety of unique challenges our students may face, and I am devoted to meeting the needs of our students.  I am thankful for this opportunity to serve as Syracuse Elementary’s principal, and I look forward to getting to know you and the wonderful students of this school.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions, or to introduce yourself and your child.

Thank you,

Doug Hammerschmidt
