Dear Syracuse Community,

Education at Syracuse Elementary School will promote the mission of learning first for all. This supports the Davis School District Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan in the areas of Culture, Student Growth and Achievement, Parent and Community Connections, Empowered Employees, Fiscal Responsibility, and Safety and Security. We believe all students can learn and we strive to have a high-quality teacher in each classroom with the resources needed to hone their skills, as we focus on student achievement and progress. We will give the support needed so students can reach their goals and feel successful. It is important to our faculty and staff to celebrate the success of all in our building.

It is our goal to use best instructional teaching and learning strategies to increase student learning. Our teachers will utilize more innovative 21st century technology tools to enhance student engagement, and assist students to learn skills of problem solving, critical thinking, exploration, and collaboration. We will work to protect the self-esteem of each individual and to make every student feel valued. When students feel valued and empowered in their learning, they are more likely to improve academically and succeed.

We believe that strong community involvement improves learning and creates opportunities for strengthening relationships. We will work together as a team with the family, school, and community to encourage and motivate all students to reach their full potential. You, the parents, must play a key role in the education of your children. Your words of encouragement, a hug when the day has been rough, your interest in your children’s work, and your presence at school are vital! We would love your involvement at school through volunteering, sharing your knowledge and skills through our before and after school programs, classroom presentations or on the PTA and/or on the Community Council. Together, the community and the school can support our staff and students as they become lifelong learners and responsible citizens, striving to reach new heights to make the community and the world a better place.

We are an accredited school district and each school is continually striving to improve each year. The accreditation process includes visits from the Accreditation Team to see what feedback they can give to help our school advance in any aspects of education. We will continue to seek their counsel and attain the best educational experience for our students, staff, teachers, stakeholders, and the Syracuse community.

When people work together great things happen!

Educationally Yours,

Marilyn Merkley
